Exploring Secular Humanistic Judaism: A Folkshul Adult Community Learning and Discussion Group

We had a great deal of interest in adult education and are pleased to announce that our opening session will be this Sunday, January 10th, at the Springside School. All are welcome.

The themes of the sessions will focus on secular humanism as an authentic Jewish approach to understanding the complexities of the world we live in, from ancient texts and holidays to philosophy, literature and contemporary society.

Folkshul teacher Josh Yarden will facilitate the series. Josh has been teaching in adolescent and adult education settings for over 35 years and has been an engaging presenter at recent CSJO conferences. Josh holds an MA in Jewish History and Judaic Thought from the University of Haifa and a PhD in Education, Culture and Society from the University of Pennsylvania, where his dissertation on cultural transformation included a humanistic interpretation of the epic of Moses and the liberation narrative that is central to the biblical narrative, human history and comtemporary politics.

The course will run for six Sunday mornings, beginning on January 10th.

Location: Springside Chestnut Hill Academy

Day/Time: Sunday mornings, 10:10-11:30am.

Dates: 1/10, 1/24, 1/31, 2/14, 2/21, 3/6.

Please invite others to join us. Bring a friend!

RSVP to adultcommunity@folkshul.org so that we can plan for the proper numbers. Also, please consider a donation of $36 to cover the costs of offering this course.

Try out a class or two, meet like-minded, thought provoking people and ideas!
